Case Study: How Cornerstone Pub Replaced a Failing Kitchen Floor in Just One Day

When you're running a busy restaurant, every hour the kitchen is closed means lost revenue.

That was the challenge facing Cornerstone Pub in Exeter, Rhode Island. Their commercial kitchen floor had begun to fail, with deteriorating quarry tile, missing grout lines, waterproofing issues, and areas of rotting wood beneath the surface. A traditional flooring replacement could have shut the kitchen down for multiple days—but that wasn't an option.

The Challenge

Cornerstone Pub needed a flooring solution that could:
• Eliminate water intrusion
• Replace failed tile
• Create a sanitary, easy-to-clean surface
• Minimize business interruption

The project covered 980 square feet of flooring and 294 linear feet of integral cove base.

The Solution

The installation was completed by Matt Horner, Operations Manager at Industrial Floors LLC. His six-person crew repaired the substrate, prepared the existing quarry tile, and installed a seamless JetRock JetGrip™ resinous quartz flooring system—all in a single day.

Why JetRock?

Key benefits highlighted in the project:
• 100% sealed, watertight surface
• Antimicrobial epoxy system
• Seamless construction with no failing grout lines
• Non-skid aggregate for improved traction
• Easy-to-clean finish
• Designed to get facilities back in business quickly

JetRock is also a self-sealing system, eliminating the need for a separate grout coat or topcoat.

The Result

The entire project was completed in one day. After only a few hours of curing, the kitchen equipment was returned to service, allowing Cornerstone Pub to reopen the very next day.

The restaurant reported that the floor was:
• Easy to clean
• Comfortable to walk on
• Slip resistant
• Free of cracks
• A noticeable improvement to the kitchen's daily work environment

Key Takeaways

✔ Seamless, antimicrobial, watertight flooring supports sanitation and easy cleaning.
